Cork Place Name Archive

Cork County Library is the first library in Ireland that house a public County Place Name Archive. The compiler of the archive was Dr Éamon Lankford of Cork City who in 1976 first began the collection and mapping of the location of minor placename heritage at Oileán Cléire / Cape Clear Island, Co. Cork, Ireland.

The bound volumes of the Cork Place Name Survey give full details regarding the operation of the survey, its methodology for gathering minor placenames heritage as well as the oral and documentary sources consulted for every townland and parish in Co. Cork.
